Goodyer Cup 3rd Leg
The third leg of the Charles Goodyer event held at the two Onchan venues was a designated Dry Line only round, unfortunately with half of the seventeen taking part failing to catch it was also a dry net night for many.
As in previous leg’s the brisk North Easterly wind ensured that there was little in the way of fish surface activity on both reservoirs and very little was caught in the first hour. Paul Hay had a single fish from Kerrowdhhoo flat as did Brian Craig from overflow corner.
With no real action on the flat, Russell Cowell moved in search of his “quarry” to Twitchers bank where he persevered finishing up with two fish. After a brief and rare visit to the Clypse, Mike Welsh returned to his favoured spot on the neck of the Kerrowdhoo where like most of those lucky enough to have caught he was stuck on one fish, along with Kevin Walmsley who had been blanking, Welsh had plenty of action in the last ten minutes. Both anglers could have bagged up,both missing takes, each landing the last of their two fish at the same time.
The dearth of fish on the Kerrowdhoo was supassed by those on Clypse where only two were recorded , Billy Booth’s at 1lbs 13-6oz and Geoff Gilbert’s 1lb -13-4oz.
It was obvious that the scales would only be needed for a short time with only eleven fish being offered. After “Knocking on the Door” in recent weeks Russell Cowell’s two at 4lbs-15-4oz gave him his first club victory, ahead of Mike Welsh 4lbs-00-6oz and Kevin Walmsley,3lbs-13-2oz. Cowell’s fish were caught on Blobbs, Welsh’s on a Dawsons Olive and Walmsley’s on a Damsel Fly.
Res. 1,Russell Cowell 4-15-4; 2, Mike Welsh 4-00-6 3, Kevin Walmsley 3-13-2 4, Stuart Littlewood 2-00-4 5,Paul Hay 1-13-6 6, Geoff Gilbert 1-13-4 7, Billy Booth 1-13 8, Brian Craig 1-10-4. Heaviest , Russell Cowell 2-11-2 Stuart Littlewood, 2-04-6

Goodyer /Garrett Update
18 anglers turned out for the second of the Goodyer Cup series at Clypse and Kerrowdhoo, the North Easterly wind, though in evidence was nowhere near as strong as in the Endurance first leg. With both reservoirs open the entry saw the usual 50/50/ split.Stuart Littlewood and Chris Roberts ,first and second respectively in the opening leg headed for the area of their previous success, Roberts made the perfect start with a Buzzer caught fish on each of his first two casts, Littlewood also opened his account early as did Paul Hay who fished in the same area. The bankside telegraph reported reported a similar picture on on the Clypse where John Halsall and Rocky Moore had made successful starts, both using sinking lines and Blobs. Despite the Flying start by Roberts, he had to wait until late into the event to bag up with four, missing many in the intervening period as did Hay whose two fish fell to a Cat’s Whisker. Billy Booth, using Blobs and Intermediate line tempted three from Clypse, Mike Welsh doing likewise using a Nomad from the early part of the lower water. Just three of the total entry ended up with a maximum four bag, Halsall, Moore and Roberts and it was the latter whose total weight of 9lbs-01oz was improved with the nights best singleof 2lbs-15-6oz. Rocky Moore with his first top three finish took second with 8lbs-02-8oz ,ahead of John Halsall,7lbs-09oz.
Result, 1,Chris Roberts 9lbs-01oz; 2,Rocky Moore 8lbs-0208oz;3, John Halsall 7lbs-09-4oz; 4,Mike Welsh 6lbs-03oz; 5, Billy Booth 6lbs-01-2oz; 6, Kevin Walmsley4lbs-09oz; 7, Geoff Walmsley 3lbs-12-8oz 8,Paul Hay 3lbs-10-2oz;9, Geoff Gilbert 2lbs-03-6oz;10, Russell Cowell 2lbs 01oz; 11, Stuart Littlewood2lbs-00oz.Heaviest Fish, Chris Roberts 2lbs-15-6oz; Kevin Walmsley 2lbs -12-4 oz. Total weght of the 27 fish was 55lbs-05oz and a fish average of 2lbs+
With a fish in the last 30 seconds of the Garrett Shield Max Workman with 8lbs 06-6oz literally pipped Alice Bell at the post by .4 of an ounce, William Walmsley took third with 7lbs-13-6oz; 4, Sam Walmsley 7lbs-09oz; 5, Ben Walmsley 7lbs 06oz;6, James Duncan 5lbs-10-6oz 7,;Jack Kissack 3lbs 04oz; 8, Christina Craig3-00-4oz
causey beach series
There was a switch of venues for the latest round of the causey beach competition, we held the competition at port e vullen and it was a slow start to say the least with just the odd fish appearing from time to time which gave the chance to collect some razor fish at low water.
Once the tide had turned the fish started to appear and the odd doubles were showing up, Steve cowell fishing the favoured ‘stream peg’, ended up winning with six dogfish and a flounder for 425cm just ahead of Kenny clough, peg 8 who managed to land six dogfish for 390cm, and in third place was Kevin Doyle, peg 1 with five dogfish for 325cm.
The winner Steve cowell took the lions share of the money by taking all the pools(bag, dogfish 2-04 & heaviest other 1 lb )and half of the mystery pairs pool as well, out of the eight anglers who turned up to fish this comp only one failed to weigh in.
The scheduled next leg of this competition has now been cancelled as it coincides with the end of Ramsey’s festival, so the next competition will be the r.n.l.i. spoons on Sunday 10th of June at point west, booking in from 1.30pm, fishing 2.30 – 6.30, would all members who intend to fish this competition please contact Billy the day before to check that there has not been a venue change, you can also check out details on the clubs website, that is douglasanglingclub.com

Charles Goodyer 1st leg
It was certainly not going to be a night that Midge repellant would be needed when the opening round of 6 in the Goodyer series was held at the Kerrowdhoo. The 13 Seniors and 3 Juniors taking part had to brave a cold Northerly wind, Rain, and the Clypse being closed due to stocking. With the Clypse being closed anglers did not have to make the usual decision where to fish, late arrivals, Elliot -Black Williams and Daniel Looney must have thought it was their lucky night when they sprinted towards the top water until they were promptly told they were heading for a closed reservoir. Almost everyone headed towards the Kerrowdhoo flat, eventually lining the bank between Bobby’s seat and the overflow corner, the exception being Russell Cowell, who fished the neck on the opposite side and Mike Welsh who covered the minimum distance!
Stuart Littlewood and Chris Roberts fishing Cormorants and Damsel respectively each had two early fish, Littlewood one on his second cast ,they both had to wait until late into the event before landing a third. Russell Cowell, Blobs and Damsels, had his first fish from his starting spot before roaming around to take two more from the neck. Despite Roberts having the heaviest fish of the night at 2lbs-14.8 it was Littlewoods three for 7lbs-03oz that took the main points in the opening round ahead of Roberts, 6lbs-11.4 and Russell Cowell 6lbs-08oz, who once again was in the top three after finishing 2nd and 3rd in the recent Boyde and Cliffy Cain events.
Result,1,Stuart Littlewood 7lbs-03oz; 2,Chris Roberts 6lbs-11oz; 3, Russell Cowell 6lbs-08oz; 4, Paul Hay, 4lbs-06-8oz;5 ,Geoff Gilbert 2lbs-03-8oz ;6, Brian Clague 2lbs-02-6oz; 7, Brian Craig 2lbs-02-4oz 8,Mike Welsh 2lbs-01-6 oz. Heaviest Fish, Chris Roberts, 2lbs-14-8oz, Stuart Littlewood, 2lbs-12-4oz.. 8 Anglers shared 15 Fish total weight 33lbs-07oz and a fish average of 2lbs-01oz. Next Leg, Wednesday, 2nd May, fishing 6-30 to 9-15pm
Boyde Sheild
A good turnout of 22 anglers which included four Juniors, competed for the Boyde Sheild , as usual the format allowed those taking part to roam between the Island’s reservoirs and rivers throughout the allotted six and a half hour period.
The return to the T.T. Grandstand saw fourteen offerings to the scale and it was Graham Norman who secured a good victory ahead of a field which included four previous winners. Graham’s winning weight of 8lbs-03oz was four Damsel tempted Rainbows from the Kerrowdhoo. Russell Cowell was just four ounces behind on the same venue, his bag of 7lbs-15oz achieved on Buzzers.Chris Roberts opted for Injerbreck where he had been ” Camping Out” on his practice sessions for most of the week, despite using catch and release and having the choice from ten fish his third place total only amounted to 6-10oz.
Sam Walmsley did not have quite enough this time to challenge the Seniors, with one fish from the river and three from Sulby he took the Junior replica with 7lbs-09oz, ahead of Christina Craig,3lbs-12oz, and William Walmsley2lbs-15oz.
Heaviest Fish, Sam Walmsley,2lbs-05,Brian Craig, 2lbs-04-8oz. 32 Fish were recorded, average weight, 1lbs-11oz.
Wednesday the 25th of April sees the first of the six evening legs in the Charles Goodyer series, fishing is between 6-30 and 9pm at the Clypse and Kerrowdhoo. The series includes a replica for the best Junior total weight over the six legs. Prospective new members can provisionally join on the night.
